Santos Galbée Automatic Ref. 2319

€0,00

The Cartier Santos was introduced in 1911 and is considered the first men's wristwatch. It was designed by Louis Cartier and named in honor of aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont, after he wore the first prototypes of the watch during his flights.

The square case design was unique for its time and the exposed screws around the bezel held the glass in place and were intended to resemble the feet of the Eiffel Tower. Combined with a highly readable dial, it allowed early pilots to quickly read the time in the busy open-air cockpits of early aircraft.

The Santos Galbee was introduced in 1987 in response to the Quartz Crisis, opting for battery power with a more rounded case shape.
